Kalpakta Education Foundation empowers rural children with education, fostering imagination and transformation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization took root with a deep concern for the education of rural children, who lacked the resources available to their urban counterparts. Determined to find a solution, we embarked on a journey to create a better way for these underprivileged children. It all began with a humble reading room, which we proudly named "Kalpakta" to signify our success. As time passed, the number of students grew, and now, we stand here, a testament to the power of compassion and dedicated efforts in transforming lives through education.
(We began Kalpakta in July 2020, located in Sirsi, District Nagpur, Maharashtra, to create a reading culture in villages.)
The Kalpakta Education Foundation (Kalpakta) was set up in July 2020 to explore the importance of dialogue in Education. We work with the children and teachers, through the community library and school program.
“Kalpakta” - The word derived from “Kalpana” which means imagination.
Our vision is to foster critical thinking in children through a culture of reading.

In the beginning of the academic year, Cluster Resource Person (CRP) held a teacher training about the FLN program. We were invited by CRP to attend the meeting and share our insights from last year’s intervention. We also shared our future action plan with the CRP and teachers, and asked for their support.
The Bookworm team visited Kalpakta in July. The purpose of the visit was to build the capacity of the team members by providing on-the-ground support. Bookworm is one of the early organizations that believes in possibilities of the vibrant children's library. The Bookworm team guided Kalpakta in curating the collection, classification and colour coding of books to create an age-appropriate collection.
We conducted a summer camp in Sirsi village. The idea was to connect children to the library during summer holidays. We organised activities like storytelling, drawing, painting, art and craft. Children participated actively in the summer camp. We also got positive responses from parents and they requested us to continue similar activities for their children.
Kripa and Rohan visited Kalpakta. It was the first time an illustrator was visiting our library and it was a cheering moment for us. She took art sessions with children. Kripa has done illustration for the books of ‘Bombay Ducks, Bombay Docs’, ‘The Art Gallery on Princes Street’ and others. Rohan is a comic cartoon artist, he doodles for magazines and newspapers. Undoubtedly children had enjoyed their sessions and meeting with them.
मी इयत्ता ५ वी ला असतांना पहिल्यांदा कल्पक्ता वाचनालयाशी जुळली. इथे वेगवेगळ्या चित्राचे पुस्तके बघितली आणि त्यातील गोष्टी वाचायची आवड निर्माण झाली. इथे वाचनसोबतच चित्र काढणे, नवीन काही बनविणे, खेळणे, ताई-दादा कडून छान छान गोष्टी ऐकायला मज्जा येते. आता मी नवीन-नवीन पुस्तके वाचते आणि ती वाचून झाल्यावर त्यावर माझे मत सुद्धा मांडते. माझी आवडती पुस्तक ‘मितवा’ ही आहे. मला त्यातील मितवा आवडते. आणि मला इथे दररोज यायला सुद्धा आवडते.
मेरा नाम माहेश्वरी है। मैं कक्षा 7 वी में हूँ। मुझे लाइब्रेरी में आना बहुत पसंद है। मुझे जो करना पसंद है, वो मैं यहाँ कर सकती हूँ। जैसे किताबें पढ़ना, ड्रॉइंग करना, art & craft, ताई-दादा से बातचीत करना। पहले मैं सिर्फ छोटी और कहानियों की किताबें पढ़ती थी। पर अब मैं अलग-अलग किताबें पढ़ती हूँ, जैसे- non-fiction books, theme से संबंधित किताब, कविताएं आदि। किताब पढ़ने के साथ-साथ कल्पक्ता में और भी बहुत कुछ सीखने-समझने को मिलता है। कभी कोई विशेष दिन (महिला दिन, पर्यावरण दिन, महापुरुषों का जन्मदिन आदि मौकों) महान व्यक्ती के विचार पढ़ने-समझने को मिलते है।
